  • BJP Leader’s “Emotional Outburst” Apology Over “Pakistan” Remark At IAS Officer

Karnataka’s BJP Member of Legislative Council (MLC) N Ravikumar, whose “Pakistan” remark at a Muslim IAS officer in Kalaburagi had landed him in trouble, has apologised for his communal comment.

The BJP leader had questioned if Fouzia Taranum, the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi, was “from Pakistan” during a protest in front of her office. He apologised after his comments sparked outrage, and a police case was filed against him.

Calling it an “emotional outburst” that he should have avoided, Mr Ravikumar said the BJP is a responsible party and his remark does not match with its ethos.

“It was an emotional remark. I should not have said it. The BJP is a responsible central ruling party. It was not right on my part to make such a remark. I want to apologise for my remark,” he told NDTV.

Mr Ravikumar had made the comment when he and his supporters were protesting against the alleged mistreatment of Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council.

The ruling Congress workers had reportedly confined the Leader of Opposition inside a guest house over a “dog” remark on state minister Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

“I don’t know whether the Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner has come from Pakistan or is an IAS officer here. Looking at your applause, it seems like the DC has indeed come from Pakistan,” Mr Ravikumar had said during the protest.

The leader faced criticism for his communal remark, which was seen as an attack on a civil servant’s patriotism and religious identity.

Priyank Kharge had condemned the comment as “highly distasteful” and wondered if people who speak in this manner can be called “true Indians”.

A Kalaburagi resident filed a complaint against him, after which a police case was filed against Mr Ravikumar under sections of threat of injury to a public servant, malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings, and the law against atrocities on people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

  • Eid Ul-Adha 2025: When Will The Dhu al-Hijjah Crescent Moon Be Sighted In Saudi Arabia?

Eid ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is a significant religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It honours Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The exact date of Eid ul-Adha is determined by the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon. Eid-ul-Adha 2025 in Saudi Arabia is expected to be celebrated on June 6, with the crescent moon sighting scheduled for May 27, 2025.

Eid Ul-Adha in UAE, Saudi Arabia

Muslims in other countries like the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, the UK, the US, France, and Canada will also attempt to sight the Eid-ul-Adha crescent moon on May 27.

As per Gulf News, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has issued a call to Muslims to spot the crescent moon marking the start of Dhu Al Hijjah 1446 AH, corresponding to May 27. The court has encouraged anyone who sees the moon, either with the naked eye or binoculars, to report to the nearest court and provide testimony. This sighting determines the beginning of the holy month and sets the dates for Eid al-Adha and the Hajj pilgrimage.

    • Moon Sighting Date: May 27, 2025 (Tuesday)
    • Start of Dhul Hijjah: May 28, 2025 (Wednesday), if the moon is sighted
    • Arafat Day: June 5, 2025 (Thursday)
    • Eid-ul-Adha: June 6, 2025 (Friday)

However, if the moon isn’t sighted on May 27, the start of Dhul Hijjah will be May 29, and Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on June 7. In some countries like India, Pakistan, and Malaysia, the moon sighting will be on May 28, and Eid-ul-Adha might be celebrated on June 7 or 8.

In Saudi Arabia, Eid-ul-Adha is marked by a public holiday typically spanning three to four days (from the 10th to the 12th or 13th of Dhul Hijjah). Celebrations include special prayers, the ritual slaughter of livestock, festive meals, and acts of charity. The Day of Arafah, the holiest day in Islam, precedes Eid-ul-Adha and is observed with fasting and prayers, particularly for Hajj pilgrims.

    Eid Ul-Adha in India, Pakistan

Muslims in India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, the Sultanate of Brunei, and other South Asian nations will attempt to sight the crescent Dhul Hijjah moon on May 28.

    • Moon Sighting Date: Wednesday, May 28 (29th Dhul Qaadah 1446 AH)
    • If the moon is sighted, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025, with Dhul Hijjah starting on Thursday, May 29
    • If the moon is not sighted, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Sunday, June 8, 2025, with Dhul Hijjah starting on Friday, May 30
  • What Saudi Arabia Official Said On Reports Of Kingdom Lifting Alcohol Ban

A minor step towards allowing alcoholic drinks to be consumed in the kingdom was the opening of the first alcohol store in the capital, Riyadh, last year, serving exclusively non-Muslim diplomats.

A Saudi official denied on Monday media reports saying the kingdom, the birthplace of Islam, would lift its 73-year-old ban on alcohol, which is prohibited for observant Muslims.

The report, which was picked up by some international media after it appeared on a wine blog last week, said Saudi authorities planned to allow the controlled sale of alcohol as the country prepares to host the 2034 soccer World Cup. It did not give a source for the information.

The report sparked a vigorous online debate in the conservative kingdom, whose king also holds the title of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques – Islam’s most revered places in Mecca and Medina.

Saudi Arabia’s de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS, is pushing a series of reforms to open up the country for tourism and business, as part of an effort to strengthen non-oil sectors of the economy.

Viral Video Brings Macron's Student-Teacher Love Story Back Into Spotlight

Emmanuel Macron first met Brigitte in 1993

French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte Macron, is back in the spotlight after a video appeared to show her shoving his face away when they touched down for a visit to Vietnam.

This is not the first time their relationship has made headlines.

They first met in 1993 at the Catholic Lycee La Providence in Amiens, where Brigitte, then 39, was a high school teacher and Emmanuel, 15, was her student.

Brigette, who was married to banker Andre-Louis Auziere and had three children with him, had her eldest daughter in the same class as Emmanuel.

According to a biography of France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron: An Unfettered Woman by Maelle Brun, their family discovered their affair in the summer of 1994 after they saw them sunbathing together by the pool. Brigitte and Auziere were later divorced.

Emmanuel’s ex-sports teacher Daniel Leleu said, “At 15, Macron had the maturity of a 25-year-old. He preferred to spend his time talking with the teachers rather than his classmates.”

The relationship, though, did not sit well with everyone. Some sent anonymous letters to Brigette’s family, which ran an old chocolate and macaron factory. Others went as far as spitting on her door, according to Ms Brun.

In her autobiography, Ms Brun wrote, “From one day to the next, her friends, with whom she was planning a vacation, refused to speak to her.”

Later, Emmanuel left his hometown to complete his final year in politics and international affairs at a university in Paris. During an interview with Paris Match, Brigette revealed she thought their relationship would not last, for he might fall in love with someone his age, according to a report in The NY Post. She said, “My head was in a mess.”

Despite being in a long-distance relationship, the two stayed in touch and kept seeing each other. The couple then got married in 2007, the same year Brigette’s divorce was finalised, in the beach-front town of Le Touquet, where she married her first husband in 1974.

“There are times in your life when you need to make vital choices. Of course, we have breakfast together, me and my wrinkles and him with his youth, but it’s like that,” she told Elle France.

In 2014, Emmanuel became the finance minister and his wife quit her job to support him. The couple’s relationship was also in turmoil during Emmanuel’s presidential campaign. At the time, there were rumours that Emmanuel was secretly in a relationship with the head of Radio France, and that Brigitte was merely a cover for it, according to The NY Post. Emmanuel denied the rumours.

In her biography of Brigitte, Ms Brun mentioned that the First Lady of France was deeply hurt by the rumours and was going through a lot of emotional pain in her life.

On Monday, though, Macron was quick to dismiss all the rumours, saying, “My wife and I were merely fooling around but the moment was turned into some kind of planetary catastrophe. Everyone just needs to calm down.”

  • Pak Raises India Conflict With Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei’s Measured Response

The key factor bringing the countries together is Gaza, devastated in the aftermath of Israel’s brutal counterstrike to the Hamas attacks in October 2023.

Iran and Pakistan are mending relations after airstrikes a year ago, driven by shared concerns over Gaza. PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized peace talks with India, while Iran’s Khamenei praised Pakistan’s stance on Palestine, urging Muslim unity amid conflicts.

A year after they conducted airstrikes in each other’s territory, Iran and Pakistan appear to be burying the hatchet as Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir visit Tehran and meet the Iranian leadership.

The key factor bringing the countries together is Gaza, devastated in the aftermath of Israel’s brutal counterstrike to the Hamas attacks in October 2023. While Pakistan brought up its recent conflict with India and Kashmir, Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in public remarks, has only said Iran hopes disputes between India and Pakistan are resolved.

    The Gaza Unity Factor

According to a report in The Tehran Times, Khamenei has acknowledged that Pakistan has not joined the countries normalising ties with Israel in “a blatant betrayal of the Palestinian cause” despite Western pressure. “While there have been temptations for Islamic countries to engage with the Zionist regime in recent years, Pakistan has never succumbed to these temptations,” he said during a meeting with the Pakistani Prime Minister. He said the Palestine issue is the foremost concern of the Islamic world. “The situation in Gaza has reached a point where ordinary people in Europe and the United States are protesting their governments, yet unfortunately, some Islamic governments stand alongside the Zionist regime under these circumstances,” he said.

The Dawn reported that Israeli actions have caused untold misery for the people of Gaza. “It is high time that the international community used its influence to bring a lasting ceasefire in Palestine. Pakistan stands by its brothers and sisters in Iran to promote peace, progress and prosperity,” he said.
